NCP engineering Granted Patent for Technology That Improves Remote Access Connections

NCP engineering today announced that it has been awarded a patent for Path Finder, a technology that enables remote access VPN connectivity on unknown networks with restricted access settings, e.g. hotels and public hotspots.

U.S. Patent 8811397, “System and Method for Data Communication Between a User Terminal and a Gateway via a Network Node”, recognizes NCP’s proprietary technology, invented by Andreas Baehre, Head of Research and Development of NCP engineering, that detects whether firewall settings prevent a connection to an enterprise’s VPN gateway. If a network environment blocks native IPsec communication, e.g. only HTTP and HTTPS traffic is permitted by the firewall, the NCP VPN client automatically utilizes Path Finder mode to emulate HTTPS on the outside of the VPN tunnel. This enables the VPN client to establish a secure, encrypted tunnel to the corporate network’s VPN gateway via the HTTPS port, while maintaining robust IPsec security policies on the inside.

Key Facts

  • Path Finder is a key feature of the NCP Secure Enterprise Solution, an award-winning IPsec and SSL VPN system that provides a single point of administration for network administrators to manage their entire remote access infrastructure while giving employees the flexibility to access sensitive information from anywhere, at any time.
  • Used in conjunction with the NCP Enterprise Solution, the NCP Secure Enterprise Client suite utilizes Path Finder to navigate difficult, IPsec-hostile remote access environments to safely connect to the corporate network. Employees can connect via a wide range of devices, because all major operating systems are supported, including Windows 8/7/Vista/XP/CE, Apple OS X Mavericks/Mountain Lion, Android and Linux.

Supporting Quotes

  • “Far too often, network settings at a remote location unknowingly prevent an enterprise’s employees from utilizing safe and secure VPN connections to the corporate network or Internet,” said Patrick Oliver Graf, CEO of NCP engineering. “As more workers are now connecting from hotels, cafes, etc., they require remote access solutions that let them easily connect from anywhere. NCP’s newly-patented Path Finder technology automatically establishes a connection wherever there is Internet access, which makes remote access significantly easier for employees.”
